"Look at the donut, not the hole." ...age-old advice from one of my former coaches, reminding us to look at what we have, not what we don't

Remember, Babe Ruth may have been one of the great homerun hitters of all time, but he also struck out a lot, too. The job search is just like that, especially in this economy. Keep getting back up there and swinging for the fence!

Trust Yourself...And Go That Final 5%

How many of those roadkill animals that we see, but especially squirrels, have fallen victim to this kind of behavior?  I'm willing to bet it is quite a few!

That kind of behavior or thinking is also dangerous--though certainly not to the same degree--in our job search strategies.  It hearkens back to an article we discuss in Self Awareness classes, "How to Get Out of Your Own Way."  Many of us doubt ourselves or carry out other behaviors that are detrimental to our ability to "sell ourselves" as the best candidate.  I'm sure that all of us have been in interview situations and said or did something, even something small, that gave the interviewer the wrong impression and was akin to that squirrel turning back.  Most of these behaviors are rooted in our own fears and self-doubts, so we can overcome them.  We just need to trust ourselves and forge ahead across that final 5% of road.  It's the only sure way to "safety"...and a more promising future.
