"Look at the donut, not the hole." ...age-old advice from one of my former coaches, reminding us to look at what we have, not what we don't

Remember, Babe Ruth may have been one of the great homerun hitters of all time, but he also struck out a lot, too. The job search is just like that, especially in this economy. Keep getting back up there and swinging for the fence!

Additional Leads for Friday

Mobilex Openings

I wanted to make you aware of some job openings at Mobilex, which is a company in Sparks, MD.  Many of you know that many CSB grads work at Mobilex, and I can tell you from my visitations there that it seems like a great place to work.  The people are extremely friendly and professional, and the campus on which the business is located is simply beautiful.  In addition, we have had a wide array of CSB grads hired there:  CAM's, COM's, MOS's, and MAA's have all had some success working there.  Certainly, the MAA billing/coding is the most clearly aligned with what they do, but other students should feel free to apply.  What is vital, however, are the following traits:  strong computer skills, being a quick learner, the ability to multi-task.

If you think you have what it takes...and the opportunity to work for a very good company interests you, go to their website at http://www.mobilexusa.com/ITsupport/jobs.php .  If you do apply, please let me know and I will follow up with an email to my contacts at the company.

Overcoming Failure

Monday's Leads

Swedish Proverb:  "Those who wish to sing, always find a song."

I love this quotation because it speaks of one's attitude and perspective.  So much of how we perceive something and how we act and react is dependent upon our attitude.  Our attitude and our expectations color everything, so it makes sense to cultivate a positive attitude and an open mind.  Sometimes that's easier said than done, but we can all be more successful that way.

Three Hot Leads

I just got three job leads yesterday afternoon!

One is for a legal secretary job in Hanover.  However, I don't think it would absolutely need to be only a legal student as the job will entail secretarial/office work and receptionist work as well.

The second job is for a medical technician (any MAA or MOS could apply) in a York eye doctor's office.

The third job actually is for a family practice in Hanover, and they just had 4 MA's leave very suddenly.  Thus, they are in need of quite a few MA's...and very soon as they are extremely short-staffed.

Please let me know if you have an interest in any of these positions.  Send me an email at tbarshinger@csb.edu and specify for which of the positions you want me to send your resume!

Secretarial Work

I just got a call this morning from a local lawn care company--it is actually the company that cares for CSB's lawn and landscaping--and they are looking for a PT Secretary.  At present, the job will be 20-24 hours a week, but there is a chance it could go to FT once the spring and summer comes and their business ramps up.

The man said that the following traits are essential:
  • ability to work with Quickbooks
  • ability to work independently and to "jump right in" with little training
  • exellent customer service skills and the ability to answer phones, schedule appts, etc
If you are interested, please let me know with an email at tbarshinger@csb.edu or a phone call at 764-9550.

Happy Martin Luther King Day

On this day as we remember a great man, let us all pause and think of the legacy he has left us.  Obviously, we have the incredible changes that he helped bring about in civil rights, but he has also left another legacy that affects each of us.  That legacy is one of perseverance, of never giving up despite adversity and challenges.  Certainly, that legacy applies to anyone who is searching for a job in these tough economic times.  In that respect, we should remember MLK's fight and the never-say-die attitude with which he approached his "dream."  Take that same perseverance with you in your search--and all you do in life--and you will ultimate find success as well.

Thank you, Dr. King!

The CSB family gives a big round of applause to Sandy Yoder for getting a job as a medical assistant/dialysis technician.  We are very proud of you, Sandy, and we know you'll do a great job!  Keep up the good work!

Attention, MAA B/C Students!

Attention Billing and Coding Students!

I just received a call about a job opening with Manor Care in Dallastown.  The position if for an assistant to the Business Office Manager.  She is looking for someone who has training in billing and coding and who has good customer service skills.  The job will include doing billing and coding work, as well as meeting with patients' families to discuss costs, billing, etc.

If you are interested, please send an email to me, Tim Barshinger, at tbarshinger@csb.edu and include your most recent resume and a specific cover letter for this job.  My contact asked that all resumes/cover letters go through me, so please don't call Manor Care.

Additionally, in your cover letter be sure to address your billing/coding skills, your training in basic accounting classes, and your customer service skills and/or experience. If your internship (or related past work experiences) required these skills, be sure to explain that!

Another Thought to Consider

Another possibility to help with your job search might be to apply for a PA Civil Service Job at their website, http://www.scsc.state.pa.us/portal/server.pt/community/civil_service_home/9164 .  Basically, all the state jobs posted at the website require you to take a test.  Once you register with the site once, you are then able to apply for jobs for which you are qualified and register to take the required test.  The tests are scheduled for the State Civil Service Commission in Strawberry Square (Harrisburg).  Granted, there are no guarantees with these positions, and the process is slow, but who knows what could happen.  And these jobs have great benefits!  It's definitely worth your time to check it out!
